Keeping My Mind In Shape In 2012

I am going to try to start off 2012 by keeping my mind in shape. It’s important for many reasons to keep it in shape and here’s an article I wrote about keeping your mind in shape.

If you are trying to keep your mind in shape, you need to approach it the same as if you were trying to get your body in shape. If you want to put your mind in shape, you need to do mind exercises. Mind exercises are specially designed exercises that keep your mind sharp. Studies have shown that people who regularly exercise their mind are less likely to suffer the ravages of mind illnesses as they age. Here are four simple ways to exercise your mind.

Crossword puzzles are a great way to exercise your mind. You can usually find a crossword puzzle in your newspaper but if not, you can buy a book of them. Don’t like crossword puzzles? Stick with the easy ones. The goal is to make you think and even if you can’t finish the puzzles, you can sill reach your goal. Even a few minutes a day can exercise your mind and make you use different parts of your mind.

Another great mind exercise is sudoku. These puzzles involved putting all of the numbers from 1 to 9 in a box so that there are not any repeating numbers in any column or row. It can be a challenge but if you like numbers, it can be a lot of fun as you exercise your mind. A phrase sudoku lovers like to quote is “a sudoku a day keeps the senility away.” Where to find sudoku puzzles? In your newspaper, in bookstores and even on the internet. If you are reading this, you can be doing these puzzles.

A third great mind exercise is to do something new and interesting every day. Try visiting an art museum or try listening to music you wouldn’t normally listen to. It doesn’t have to be something you enjoy doing, it just has to be something that is different. It’s these different experiences that keep your mind open.

Finally, a fourth way to exercise your mind, is to learn a new topic once a week. Information has never been so easy to learn. You can pick up an encyclopedia or even browse Wikipedia. Find a topic randomly and learn all that you can, spend at least a few minutes every day learning everything you can about it.

These mind exercises are all with one goal in mind, to put your mind in shape. Always remember that a mind is like an umbrella, it only works when it’s open.
