Vitamin H, also called Biotin, is an important though not widely known vitamin. It’s an important part of the body’s way of metabolizing fats and controlling blood sugar. It works alongside Vitamin B-5 Pantothenic Acid. Vitamin H is necessary for proper health and nutrition.
The recommended daily allowance for Vitamin H is 30 micrograms per day. Vitamin H can be found in such foods as tomatoes, carrots, eggs, milk, halibut, and strawberries. Biotin is also found in nuts like almonds and walnuts. The richest sources of Vitamin H are royal jelly and brewer’s yeast. A normal diet of these and other foods will give the recommended amount of Biotin in the diet and promote overall health.
Biotin is used to metabolize the fats in the body. These fats are then converted to the energy that the body needs to function. Biotin is also used in controlling the amount of sugar in the blood. A deficiency of Vitamin H causes symptoms such as a general lack of appetite, slow growth, dermatitis and even hair loss. The lack of Vitamin H retards proper cell generation and the use of body nutrients. There are is very little danger in consuming large quantities of Biotin.
Biotin has been useful in treating several conditions. It’s very useful in counteracting hair loss in children and adults. It’s also used in treating cradle cap in infants. It’s most interesting use in helping to control diabetes. Many diabetics have lower levels of Biotin. Since Vitamin H is important in controlling blood sugar, there is promise seen in using Biotin to help the body naturally deal with some of the effects of diabetes.
