Vitamin C: The Magical Power of Ascorbic Acid

Vitamin C, also called Ascorbic Acid, is one of the most important vitamins related to overall health. It’s also probably one of the most widely known and used vitamins around the world. It’s in countless supplements and finds its way into many different types of health products. Vitamin C is particularly important in building immune system strength.

The recommended daily allowance of Vitamin C is 75 to 90 mg per day. Larger doses are sometimes used to help the body improve its immune system response. The upper limit of Vitamin C dosage is approximately 2000 mg per day. If a person takes more than 2000 mg a day, they can run the risk of developing diarrhea. It’s the body’s way of expelling unneeded quantities of Vitamin C.

It’s widely known that citrus fruits are high in Vitamin C, Ascorbic Acid is found in at least small quantities in all fruits and vegetables. Concentrations are higher in fresh foods than in cooked foods. Strawberries, blueberries, tomatoes, potatoes, sweet potatoes, and leafy green vegetables are high in Vitamin C. Chile peppers and green peppers are another excellent source of Vitamin C.
